Getting Started
31-Jan-2012

Three of the School of Jewellery’s graduates have won places on the prestigious Getting Started course, run by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. Emily Richard and Grace Page, who are currently Artists in Residence, and Bryony Stanford all completed degrees at the School in 2011. They will attend the course which will focus on business training for those beginning a career in the jewellery industry.
As stated on the Goldsmiths’ Company website, “This annual week-long programme is held every January for recent UK graduates of precious metal courses. It has helped to launch the career of many of the industry's stars over its 30 year history.
Delivered as a series of seminars and workshops, the programme focuses on the next steps for those wishing to pursue a career within the industry.”
Along with 38 other jewellers and silversmiths from around the country, Emily, Grace and Bryony will spend the week at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London, which will also host an exhibition of work from the up-and-coming designer makers.
Emily Richard’s work is based on geometric shapes and patterns, creating elegant designs in precious metal, often inspired by mathematical shapes or using simple elements to build up intricate forms and patterns.
Grace Page creates pieces as “Dr Grace” - in the world of Dr Grace there is nothing that jewellery cannot cure. Drawing out the fundamental issue at the root of each problem Dr Grace provides tongue-in-cheek solutions to everyday issues. The pieces aim to make you laugh, to make you look and to make you think.
Bryony has invented a special technique to crush and distort metal to produce elegant and sophisticated wearable jewellery.
The Goldsmiths’ Getting Started course runs from 23rd – 27th January 2012.
