A prestigious and professional triumph for Abi

Abi Stradling, Manager of Allum & Sidaway Salisbury, has recently scooped the coveted top national award in jewellery education, the Greenough Trophy. This impressive and esteemed trophy has, for over sixty-five years, been awarded to the student with the highest overall marks in the National Association of Goldsmith’s Professional Jewellers’ Diploma progamme. Abi received a distinction and was victorious over all the other students on the outstanding marks achieved.

Abi is thrilled to have passed the course and ecstatic to have achieved the top results for the country. Speaking afterwards, she said “I’m surprised, pleased and proud. It really was exciting to win and I couldn’t have been happier. It is a very prestigious prize”. She worked really hard but feels that it is also the customers who get the benefit as the course provides first-class essential and extensive product knowledge and understanding of the trade including design and manufacture, hallmarking, gemstones, silverware, watches, legal matter, repairs and selling skills.

Abi felt she had the advantage of a ‘study buddy’, a colleague in a nearby Allum & Sidaway store taking the same course as they were able to set each other exam questions. She also gave a huge thank you to everyone at Allum & Sidaway who had supported her throughout and her tutor, Anne Bray.

Abi took over as manager in October 2009, although she first started working for A & S in 2006 after completing her degree in Jewellery Design & Silversmithing at the prestigious School of Jewellery in Birmingham.
