On Wednesday 24th November the Jewellery Quarter witnessed the launch of ‘Obscura’- a student lead company showcasing the jewellery of 32 talented young designers from Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery.

The event took place at Vertu bar, where clusters of white plinths of various heights were nestled into corners and placed strategically around the venue taking visitors on a journey of discovery.

Obscura’s motto ‘jewellery designed to intrigue’ was captured in the jewellery pieces which all contained an element of the ‘Obscure’; brooches with moving parts, hidden components or layers, interchangeable sections, magnifying glasses and double sided pieces all featured in this intriguing and innovative display of jewellery.

Vertu was jam packed full with jewellery enthusiasts, students, family, friends and craftsmen from the quarter- the atmosphere was buzzing and the cash tills were ringing with plenty of sales!

Paul Glennon, the Associate Dean (Student Experience) BIAD at the university said;

“I was so impressed by the Obscura Private View organised by students from the Jewellery School! It was an extremely professional and well attended event. Outstanding!”

After this incredibly successful opening night, Obscura will continue to showcase their work around Birmingham and the surrounding area throughout December.
