National Diploma (Design Crafts) students were encouraged to enter the Marcia Lanyon Innovative Design Award this year with spectacular results.

 “The Marcia Lanyon Innovative Design Award has been established under various guises for over 10 years, with winners going on to be well respected and established names within the jewellery industry. The award is a celebration of beautiful gemstones and cutting edge design; entrants are required to demonstrate an original use of coloured stones in their proposals with the top prize being awarded to the designer who shows the most innovation”

Entries were submitted on line and included postgraduate and undergraduate students from across the country. These can all be viewed on the Marcia Lanyon website: www.marcialanyon.co.uk

The comments from the judging panel this year:

“With an unprecedented quantity of fantastic entries to choose from, deciding a winner for the Marcia Lanyon Innovative Design Competition was particularly tough this year. Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, unfortunately we couldn't award prizes to all the entrants who managed to impress and delight us”

Our award winners include;

Zahra Dell has won joint second prize, awarded £100 voucher

“Zahra showed a great deal of imagination by creating a piece where stones seem precariously and loosely set but are actually secure in their channels”

Craig Archer has won 3rd prize, £100 voucher

“Spring Mechanism Interchangeable Setting is a well executed and thought out piece that allows the wearer to change the stone at their whim without changing the setting itself.”

And Antony Mayhew received an Honourable mention.
