25-Mar-2010
Last month, Ann-Marie Carey, who works at the School’s Industry Innovation Centre was formally awarded her Doctorate at one of the University’s Award Ceremonies held in the City’s Symphony Hall.
She has been involved as a part-time student for many years in order to gain her qualification which represents a pinnacle of achievement in the acquisition of new knowledge. Her thesis, entitled Laser Surface Ornamentation on Refractory Metals, brings together two interests which she has been personally working on for several years.
Our photo shows Ann-Marie immediately after the presentation, with her supervisor Terry Hunt, who said; ‘This is a wonderful and well-earned reward for Ann-Marie’s continued diligence and commitment. The research has followed an intriguing path between art and science; the outcomes represent a significant development for the future decorative use of refractory metals anywhere in the world.’
