Brilliantly Birmingham 2009
26-Nov-2009
Brilliantly Birmingham 2009 spectacularly launches its 10th international festival of contemporary jewellery.
The festival opened with a dazzling performance by our level 5 BA (Hons) Jewellery and Silversmithing students. This year, our students took center stage in the Industrial Gallery at Birmingham’s Museum and Art Gallery. This prestigious venue and magnificent staircase created a stunning backdrop and catwalk for our students to showcase their creations. Our students each individually designed and hand-made an innovative piece of jewellery which they showcased together in a vibrant and triumphant performance.
Performing to a 1930’s swing soundtrack our students created a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere, with top hats bobbing, jazz hands swinging and bright neon tights strutting, the students produced an extravagant explosion of sound and colour. The finale saw students transform their abstract jewellery creations into dynamic letterforms which spelt out HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRILLIANTLY BIRMINGHAM!
Reflecting on this Brilliantly Birmingham performance their lecturer Zoe Robertson commented;
“Together the students created a fabulous showcase to launch this years 10th Anniversary of Brilliantly Birmingham. The added pressure of performing live at the museum did not faze them. The late night rehearsals and hard work preparing for the event has really paid off. I am incredibly proud of our students and I would like to take the opportunity to say a massive thank you to all involved”
