Claire's New Collection
15-Oct-2009

Textile Designer Claire Bevan, who graduated from the School of Jewellery in 2007 with a First Class BA Honours degree, has successfully completed a Masters course in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art.
For her final collection, Claire specialised in printmaking to develop a site-specific exterior wall piece together with a range of interior accessories. Inspired by nature’s ability to capture and beautify architecture, Claire sought to combine her jewellery, textile and spatial design skills to create an eight-metre-long screen printed wall piece. This double-layer piece in copper and cotton was installed last month onto a Grade II listed building at Chelsea College of Art for the MA Show.
“My aim was to create a wall piece that would emulate the behaviour of climbing plants, but without harming the fabric of this urban building. The copper layer of the piece is designed to patinate over time so that it develops a history and gradually enhances the printed pattern.”
Contrasting in scale, Claire’s interior range consists of a folding screen and panel blinds, which can double up as room dividers. Each piece is completely unique and is screen printed with contemporary hand-drawn designs onto post-production linen waste.
