Students from the new BA Jewellery and Silversmithing - Design for Industry course are showcasing their latest creations at the contemporary, independent jewellery retail outlet in Birmingham’s Great Western Arcade at Helen Hulston.

This latest collection of work has been created using laser technology, which offers designers exciting new opportunities and has inspired the students to develop unique and individual products in precious materials.

The Birmingham Assay office kindly supported the students who used laser marking to explore pattern within their pieces of jewellery.

The new course aims to provide an understanding of the role and significance of a designer within the jewellery and silversmithing industry. Whilst there is clear emphasis on new technology, the course builds on existing traditional skills to enhance manufacturing potential. Live projects with manufacturing companies and opportunities to showcase work in a real environments such as Helen Hulston provide important experiences for the students. As a graduate from the School of Jewellery herself, Helen is well aware of the value of such opportunities and is pleased to offer her support.

The pieces will be on display in Helen Hulston, Great Western Arcade, Birmingham City Centre, from the 30th March, So go along and see for yourself, the city’s up and coming jewellery design talent.
