Students from the BA Jewellery & Silversmithing and new BA Design for Industry courses joined force to explore Munich and the design - led trade fair ‘Inhorgenta’.

Enjoying the seasonal snow, festivities and cultural experiences of Munich, 26 students were accompanied by 4 members of staff for the School’s annual field trip.

At Inhorgenta the students were able to witness the exciting work of young designers alongside the usual high quality and varied work from well-established companies. Once again the School had a stand at the fair to demonstrate the range of courses offered and to show off the quality of work achieved by our students in an international arena.

Exhausted by such a visual and inspirational experience there was only one way to recover after a hard days work – the unique atmosphere of the famous Hofbrahaus for a Weissbeir or two!

Reflecting on their experience our students said

“ I thought the trip was hugely beneficial for me as both a jewellery and gemmology student. I was able to gather a vast amount of design inspiration from the trade show, as well as broadening my knowledge of gemstones due to the vast amount on display! A very worth while and inspiring experience” Lauren Tidd

“ It was inspirational to see such a variety of styles and techniques. The thought that i could one day be as accomplished and successful as the exhibitors is a great motivator” Lex Watt

“Munich was a great opportunity for seeing a different kind of show, like Inhorgenta, but i also think it was a valuable bonding experience with our peers and colleagues” Abby Wainman

“Visiting Inhorgenta gave us a great insight into all forms of jewellery retail, from wholesale and branded, to designer-maker. It was also really interesting to see what students from other European schools were producing” Chloe Doran

“I'd describe Inhorgenta as eye-opening and completely overwhelming. It was great to see SOJ graduates such as Heidi Hinder exhibit there, out in "the real world" and doing the School proud. I would have needed about a week to get around the whole exhibition but what I managed to fit into 1 day was great and truly inspiring” Stephanie Arm
