The private view was well attended and everybody enjoying seeing the breadth of work presented. The exhibition was originally realised and hosted by The Museum of Arts and Crafts Itami, Japan in March 2008 in co-operation with the School of Jewellery. It was the first major contemporary British jewellery exhibition shown in Japan.

‘MASTERS AND PROTÉGÉS’ is an opportunity to show the work of several of the most significant jewellery artists currently practising in Britain along with that of some of their former students whose work they admire. The viewer will experience in this exhibition a wide variety of styles and approaches to ‘jewellery’ as an art form; some delightful and intriguing wearable objects, some challenging pieces of body decoration, philosophical statements or questions made concrete, narratives, or enigmas.

Professor Cherry gave a special Thanks to Yoko Izawa for all her help and support with the organisation of the exhibition in both Japan and the UK.

A beautiful catalogue has been published and is available to purchase from the school office for £15.00 until the end of the exhibition.

The exhibition is on show at the School from 27th October to 13th November 2008.
