Chris excels at Edexcel

Christopher Hay, who has just completed the Higher National Diploma at the School, was invited by Edexcel to exhibit his latest collection at their head office in Covent Garden, London over the summer.

Edexcel are the UK’s largest awarding body and are involved with provision of learning programmes and qualifications to more than 5,000 secondary schools, 450 further education colleges, 70 higher education institutions and more than 700 employers and training providers.

This experience proved to be an exciting opportunity for Chris to showcase his work to Covent Garden shoppers. He specialises in fine gold and silver jewellery which is design led for high end jewellery retailers. The work incorporates cutting-edge technology with more traditional bench skills, to produce exquisite bespoke pieces that are both contemporary in design and superior in their craftsmanship.

Having started his career whilst working in a family run jewellers based in Somerset, Chris has now progressed to the School’s BA (Hons) course.

His achievements so far as a student include:

  • First Prize – ‘Domino’ competition with his Infinite Ring design
  • First Prize – The Use of New Technology – Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths
  • First Prize – The Durant Prize for Mounting – British Jewellers Association
  • First Prize – The Han Prize for Innovative Jewellery Design - BJA
