ACJ Origin Jewellery Award
21-Oct-2008
Whilst exhibiting at Origin for the first time, Amy Duggan won the Origin Jewellery Award for creativity, innovation and standard of work which was presented by the Association for Contemporary Jewellery. She won £200 and a year’s membership to ACJ.
After graduating from Birmingham Jewellery School in 2007, Amy joined the Design Space Programme in Birmingham. This gave her the facilities to begin her career as a contemporary jeweller. Within her first year Amy had successfully exhibited both nationally and internationally at venues such as the V&A Museum, Inhorgenta Europe 2008 and most recently Origin craft fair, the foremost selling event for individual designer makers. Prior to exhibiting at Origin, Amy gained a Grants for the Arts Award from the Arts Council west Midlands. This enabled her to create a collection of new pieces which she is now supplying galleries and outlets in the UK, Germany and America.
Through her innovative style, Amy has created wearable art pieces full of life and energy. She creates edgy, unique pieces that transform silver into a canvas by etching, painting and scratching into the surface.
“The techniques I use allow a sense of freedom and spontaneity,” says Amy.
These pieces are tactile and playful; some are springy with the influence of touch or movement, others purely express movement in their design. By moving away from traditional colouring techniques such as enamelling, these pieces offer the wearer something more unusual whilst retaining high quality craftsmanship.
If you didn’t get a chance to see Amy’s work at Origin, she will be exhibiting at the Lustre event in Nottingham from 7th-9th November 2008. You can also see her work on her new website www.amydugganjewellery.co.uk.
