The Louisa Anne Ryland Award

Jonathan Olliffe a recent MA graduate from the Birmingham School of Jewellery has been awarded a travel scholarship to be used to support his studies and further his silversmithing career.
The Louisa Anne Ryland travel scholarship was awarded to Jonathan in May 2008 where he presented his work and choice of destination to a panel of judges at the Birmingham City University.
The Award will enable Jonathan to fund his travels to his chosen destination. He will be travelling to Australia where he will be an artist in residence at the Sydney College of the Arts. His three month residency will enable him to develop his work further within a new environment alongside renowned Jewellers and Silversmiths who are currently resident at the college.
Reflecting on the experience Jonathan said ‘This opportunity will allow me to develop my work further, using the surrounding environment to influence my concepts and design aesthetics but to ultimately allow me to push the boundaries in contemporary fine metalwork’.
