IJL Group Photo A collaboration between CW Sellors and the Birmingham City University School of Jewellery has resulted in a brand new collection of designs launched at this year’s IJL – the first to be developed within CW Sellors using CAD/CAM technology.

The new collection, created by graduate Katie Roberts takes its inspiration from the rugged Derbyshire Peak District landscape which surrounds the CW Sellors workshop and combines sterling silver with Derbyshire Blue John gemstone in three sculptural and highly wearable designs.

The range of necklaces, necklets and bracelets features iconic views and symbols, synonymous with the local landscape – from millstones, craggy edges and cliffs to the magnificent Peaks themselves. The use of CAD/CAM technology within the development process has enabled a greater use of textures and intricate shapes within the metal as well as a dynamic use of the Blue John gemstone.

Kate and Fiona Katie is on a two year placement at CW Sellors following an HND in Jewellery & Silversmithing at the prestigious School of Jewellery. Known as a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership), the initiative links academia with commercial partners for the mutual benefit of both parties through the placement of students. The Blue John collection is the first in a range of design projects for CW Sellors.

Commenting on her placement Katie Roberts said; “The work-based learning approach is an essential part of my studies and gives me the opportunity to really make an impact with projects that have a positive effect on CW Sellors’ products and manufacturing systems. I’m really enjoying finding solutions to help with the continued success of this busy and committed design and manufacturing team and am delighted with the results of my first venture.”
