A busy year for Nan Nan

10-Oct-2008

Since graduating from the School’s BA course in 2007 with First Class Honours, Nan Nan Liu has enjoyed many successes!

She progressed to the Bishopsland Educational Trust’s workshop in South Oxfordshire for an intensive 12 month programme and in September 2008 she commences the MA course at the Royal College of Art in London.

In that single year since graduating she has won several prizes in the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Awards, and featured in many exhibitions including:

  • Art in Action, Oxford
  • Henley Festival, Henley-on-Thames,
  • New Designers One Year On, BDC, London,
  •  SDC Gallery, London,
  • Inhorgenta, Munich,
  • Design City, NEC, Birmingham,
  •  Collect, V&A, London
  • Farnham Maltings,
  •  Queen Mary College, Basingstoke,
  •  Designer Jewellers Group, Barbican, London

In November 2008 she will be selling her work in the Dazzle exhibition held at London’s National Theatre.

Her work has a very individual character. She is intrigued by how things begin and grow, reach out, extend and then decay.

“Time creates the most beautiful patterns as the natural world ages through spring, summer, autumn and winter. Particularly patterns of leaves and fields, fingerprints, hair growth, and peeling onions all influence my work and methods of working.  The process of making each piece always brings new ideas.”

In developing her ranges she has gained a unique understanding of the balance between nature and ornamentation.
