Theresa Nguyen

10-Oct-2008

Theresa Nguyen graduated from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in 2007, with a degree in Jewellery Design and Silversmithing. In 2008, she was awarded the Nadfas South Mercia Scholarship, to further her silversmithing training at the Bishopsland post graduate workshop. She currently works from a Birmingham based workshop in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter.

Most of her work is undertaken by hand, using centuries old silversmithing techniques of scoring, folding and soldering sheet metal into powerfully graphic structures. Linear pen and ink drawings of classical and modern architecture penetrate in her mind as she investigates forms in three dimensions. She harmoniously combines artistic form and practical function in the objects she makes in silver. She produces silverware mainly for commission and exhibitions around the country. Her work was exhibited at the Collect 2008 art fair, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Her silverware can be found in the home of private collectors and public collections such as the Birmingham Museum and Art gallery. More recently, Theresa's Silver Tapered Alcove Candleholders have been acquired by the Goldsmiths' Company for their Modern Silver Collection.
