Students will have passed the Technician Grade of the British Horological Institute (BHI)

Introduction to the Course

Horology is the study and production of timekeeping devices, both mechanical and electronic. You’ll learn theoretical knowledge and practical skills appropriate for watch and clock making

In your first year you’ll look at the theory of mechanical timekeeping, workshop practice and measured drawing. In your second year, you’ll study these subjects in greater depth as well as considering complex automatic watches, chronographs and calendar watches.

Your Learning Experience

During the course, you will complete a major practical project and can choose to specialise in antique or modern clocks or watches. You’ll compile a professional portfolio of repairs and restorations to develop your skills and abilities, and a photographic workshop is provided to enhance your presentation techniques and record your work. You’ll have the opportunity to attend a design workshop to enhance your design awareness and you are encouraged to undertake the British Horological Institute’s professional examinations at the end of both the first and second year.
