Entry Requirements

In addition to the Technician Grade of the British Horological Institute, a good general level of education is required with at least 3 GCSEs at grade C or above in Maths, English Language and Science.

Introduction to the Course

This course covers every aspect of horology, both watch and clock work. You’ll study horological theory, technical drawing and practical skills, with an emphasis on achieving professional standards.

In your first year you’ll cover: The theory of mechanical timekeeping, pendulums and escapements, including elementary gearing and train calculators, workshop practice and technical drawing

In your second and third years, greater focus is given to modern mechanical and electrical timekeeping, advanced workshop skills and restoration techniques for antique clocks or watches.

All this will enable you to create a complete portfolio of repairs necessary for the BHI examinations.

For all courses the horology workshops form an important part of your learning and as such are modern and fully equipped with the latest tools and machinery. Our experienced staff are practicing horologists, whose individual specialism’s cover a wide range of areas to compliment your learning.

Career Prospects

You'll have the choice of entering the service industries for modern watch and clock servicing, antique clock and watch restoration, retail sales or self employment.
